Massage Therapy

Dr. Susan has enjoyed a successful career as a chiropractor in Tsawwassen since 1989. She has a family oriented practice treating people of all ages. Dr. Susan’s treatments include full spine manipulation as well as soft tissue treatments using massage and tools such as the activator, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization and the thumper to break down scar tissue and relieve muscle strains. Her ongoing studies include nutrition, whiplash, knee, hand, foot and shoulder injuries as well as rehabilitation, concussions and radiology. Dr, Susan Coutts has provided orthotic and foot care for over ten years, correcting such things as plantar fasciitis, heel spurs and metatarsalgia. In keeping with her holistic approach, Susan offers nutritional, exercise and postural advice to achieve optimal health for all her patients. Susan and her husband Tom currently live in Tsawwassen, BC; just a five minute bike ride from the clinic!

Dr. Sam Coutts has long been fascinated by science and the human body. Her lifelong involvement in sports led her to become particularly interested in health and human movement. With this passion, she earned her Bachelors of Kinesiology Degree from the University of British Columbia in 2016 and subsequently her Doctorate of Chiropractic at the University of Western States in 2019. Since finishing her degrees, she is happy to be back home in “Sunny” Tsawwassen, BC with her family and serving the community that raised her.  Dr. Sam delivers patient centered, evidenced based care aimed at reducing patient’s pain and returning them back to doing what they love. She has been trained to effectively treat patients with neck pain, back pain, discogenic pain, sciatica, cervicogenic headaches as well as sports and work related injuries. Sam utilizes various rehabilitation techniques, the Diversified Technique, the Activator tool, a wide variety of soft tissue treatments including pin and stretch, Muscle Energy Techniques and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) to help her patients with their unique health care needs. When Dr. Sam is not in the chiropractic clinic, she can be found walking her dog, visiting with friends and family, hiking local mountains, running, painting and traveling the globe. She believes that leading a balanced, fulfilling life allows her to bring her best self to her chiropractic practice.  *Dr. Sam is currently on maternity leave until (likely) June 2023. Andy is a graduate of the massage therapy program at Vancouver Career College. Since graduation, his treatment has primarily utilized deep and smooth Swedish massage techniques to release muscle tissue in areas such as the neck, shoulders, low back, and legs. He enjoys helping patients become pain-free when living their active lifestyle as well as office workers experiencing discomfort while working at their desks. He commonly performs a variety of myofascial releases, range of motion exercises, and has taken extra training in TMJ treatment and Ligamentous Articular Strain Technique (L.A.S.T.) in the hip/pelvis region.

Andy developed his interest in athletic biomechanics while growing playing hockey, golf, soccer, and football. Before entering massage therapy school, Andy obtained a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Lethbridge. Andy’s passions outside of work include 90s hip-hop, MTV’s The Challenge, and fantasy football & baseball (despite being terrible at it). Brooke graduated with honours from Vancouver College of Massage Therapy, following her post-secondary education of a Bachelors Degree in Human Kinetics from the University of British Columbia Okanagan. During her time in both academic programs, she worked with patients of all ages and varying degrees of injuries or ailments, such as acute and chronic orthopaedic issues, post-surgery rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, stress, headaches, whiplash, and many other systemic conditions. Brooke has a strong passion for learning and understanding how the body works in order to provide a safe and effective treatment plan for her patients.

Growing up playing competitive sports, she experienced plenty of her own injuries and found relief from a variety of treatment modalities. It was her love for exercise and movement that solidified her decision in becoming an RMT. She still remains active by playing slow pitch and golf in the summer, snowboarding in the winter, and running and hiking all year round.

Brooke utilizes many different techniques in each treatment, with emphasis on general swedish, deep tissue, trigger point release, stretching, and joint mobilizations.

Miranda is a new resident of Tsawwassen and excited to transition her practice into the community. She graduated with honours from Vancouver College of Massage Therapy, following her post-secondary education at UBC. She lived and practiced in Vancouver prior to moving to Tsawwassen in the spring of 2022.

Miranda’s passion is to use massage to improve client quality of life well beyond the time in the treatment room. This includes chronic pain reduction, postural and range of motion improvement, rehabilitation of function, along with focused relaxation for individual wellness.

She is experienced in treating neck tension and headaches, recurrent low-back and hip pain, stiff back and shoulders, chronic pain syndromes, and pre-natal massage. Miranda also has experience treating clients with acute pain from muscle strains or spasms and motor vehicle accidents. Her techniques are outcome-oriented and may include: hot stone massage, myofascial release, deep tissue, Swedish massage, neuromuscular and trigger point therapy, among a portfolio of others.

Her dedication begins with a focused assessment to determine client-specific goals, current pain and any existing limitations. Treatments are always followed with homecare plans that maximize rehabilitation, relaxation, and function. Whether it is the strain of a work environment or the tension carried in the pandemic, she will create a therapy plan to empower her clients to meet their needs.

Sarah graduated from the 3000 hour program at the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2009. She was drawn to massage as a means to treat injury and over all wellness with a scientifically proven modality. Over her 13 year career, she has enjoyed working with a variety of pathologies ranging from acute injury to chronic pain on patients raging from pediatrics to the golden oldies. A lover of life long learning – Sarah is currently a student of Biodynamic Fasical Integration techniques (specific treatments to be offered soon!). Molly has been supporting families of South Delta and their little ones for nearly 17 years as a postpartum doula and an education assistant. She has a passion for the outdoors - most especially the ocean. If not at the beach with her family, Molly may be found creating in the kitchen or laughing with friends around a fire. Molly studied Recreation Leadership at Camosun College; Therapeutic Recreation at Concordia University and completed training for Registered Massage Therapy through Langara College. Dr. Rup earned her Bachelor of Science at the University of Manitoba and completed her Doctor of Chiropractic degree at the University of Western States in Portland OR, alongside Dr. Sam! She is overjoyed to return to the West Coast to cover Dr. Sam’s maternity leave.

Dr. Rup has long been fascinated by holistic health and the human body. She is an advocate for empowering people to gain knowledge and control over their personal health and development. Dr. Rup’s treatments include utilizing various techniques such as the Diversified Technique, and a wide variety of soft tissue treatments (pin-and-stretch, Muscle Energy Techniques, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, myofascial cupping and assorted rehabilitation exercises) to help patients with their unique health care needs. Dr. Smid was born and raised in South Delta where graduated from Delta Secondary and went to study Kinesiology at UBC on a football scholarship. As a five year starter on the Thunderbirds he earned his bachelors of Human Kinetics. During his time on the field he received regular chiropractic care which allowed him to return from injuries sooner and play at a higher level. He decided to continue his education at the University of Western States in Portland Or, where he graduated with his Doctor of Chiropractic. On graduation he returned home and joined the practice of Drs Tom and Susan Coutts. His background in kinesiology and on the sports field allow Dr. Smid to treat and correct a wide array of muscloskeletal conditions.
